A bad day for punctures

Riding to work along Craig Road, as I went over a speed bump, there was a metallic clatter as if I’d dropped a spanner. Stopped to have a look, but I couldn’t see what had happened.

When I tried to ride off the rear tyre was completely flat.

I had another look. There was a razor sharp knife blade lying on the speed bump with a wicked pointy end. I’d gone over it with the front wheel, which had flicked it into the air just in time to puncture the rear tyre.

I had to repair the puncture at the roadside. Not easy, as it was the rear wheel this time. I got the patch on and it held long enough to get me to work. When I came out of work in the evening the tyre was flat. Turned out I had damaged the area around the valve when reseating the tube and putting the tyre back on. I needed to apply another two patches to the tube before it finally held pressure. Late home.

Got fed up and bought two Armadillo tyres.
